Screen size is measured diagonally from one corner of the display to the opposite corner — not the width or height of the device. A phone listed at 6.5 inches has a display diagonal of 6.5 inches. The physical body of the device is always slightly larger due to the frame, or bezel, surrounding the screen.
Bigger isn't automatically better. A larger screen makes reading and video more comfortable, but it also means a heavier, wider device that may be harder to use one-handed. Consider how and where you use the device most often before prioritizing size.

A 1080p screen on a small phone looks sharper than the same resolution on a large tablet, because the pixels are packed more tightly. As a general reference, most users stop noticing individual pixels above roughly 300 ppi at typical viewing distances. Common resolution labels you'll see include:
- HD (720p): Adequate for small screens and basic tasks
- Full HD (1080p): A comfortable standard for most phones and monitors
